Creating an Address Pool

This page explains how to create an Address Pool resource for a Virtual Mobile Gateway using the OCX Portal.

Preparation

Please confirm the following before creating an Address Pool resource:

  1. Your User Role is either admin or user.
  2. The status of the target Virtual Mobile Gateway for the Address Pool is activated.

Remarks

An Address Pool is a function used to distribute IP addresses and DNS server information when a device with an inserted SIM connects to the mobile line.
By creating a pool address with a specified IPv4 prefix, the OCX system automatically determines and assigns an IP address to each SIM when it is linked to the pool.
Users cannot manually assign or change a fixed IP address for each individual SIM.
Additionally, the prefix of an Address Pool can be expanded. If the Address Pool prefix is too small for the number of SIMs you possess, some SIM cards will not be able to be assigned an IP address.

The usable IPv4 prefix ranges are the private address ranges defined in RFC 1918:

  • 10.0.0.0/8
  • 172.16.0.0/12
  • 192.168.0.0/16

Procedure for Creating an Address Pool

  1. Log in to the OCX Portal.
  2. Click [Access Lines] from the left navigation bar.
  3. When the [Access Lines] sub-menu appears, click [Virtual Mobile Gateways (VMGs)].
  4. From the Virtual Mobile Gateways page, click the target Virtual Mobile Gateway resource.
  5. The details panel will appear at the bottom of the screen. Switch to the Address Pools tab and click the [Create Address Pool] button.
  6. The screen will switch to the Address Pool resource creation steps. Configure the following items and click [Create].
    • Address Pool
      • Name
        • Enter an arbitrary name. A recognizable name makes management easier.
        • Maximum length is 40 characters.
        • Leading and trailing whitespaces are automatically removed.
      • IPv4 Prefix
        • Enter the IPv4 address prefix to be assigned to the SIMs belonging to this Address Pool.
        • Note: Refer to the [Remarks] section for the range of usable IPv4 prefixes.
      • Primary IPv4 DNS Address
        • Enter the IPv4 address of the DNS server to be used by SIMs in this Address Pool.
      • Secondary IPv4 DNS Address
        • Enter the IPv4 address of the secondary DNS server to be used by SIMs in this Address Pool.
  7. A confirmation pop-up will appear. Review the settings and click [Create].
  8. The Address Pool list will appear at the bottom of the screen, showing the created resource. Note: You can update the status by clicking [Refresh] in the upper right corner.

This completes the creation of the Address Pool resource.
